Of course there are numerous reasons to leave the frigid cold north and set up shop in sunny South Florida. However, you may not have thought that one of those reasons is taking advantage of the astonishing 55+ communities that outline much of Southwest Florida.

If you're retired, the kids are all grown up, or you just want a change of scenery—this could be the move for you. Maybe you want a simpler lifestyle. Maybe you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of your up and coming neighborhood. Maybe you just want to be around like-minded folks. The change of lifestyle with Americans moving into 55+ neighborhoods is becoming ever-so prevalent.

The move into such a community is definitely a change of pace. Who will you be living next to? What amenities will it have? What exactly can you expect from an active 55+ community in Southwest Florida?

Well, let's start here: What exactly is an “active adult community”? For starters, there is always something to do. Many communities have outdoor activities such as shuffle board, tennis courts, fitness centers, swimming pools, etc. Some communities will have healthy lifestyle classes such as yoga instructors, fitness trainers and others that visit the community frequently. “Mobile (or traveling) personal trainers/physical therapists” are becoming very popular in 55+ and senior communities in the area.

What will your neighbors be like? Well, many people of the same age, demographic, or lifestyle often are of a like-mind. Many Floridians find it beneficial to be inter-woven with like-minded people within their communities. The great thing is that you'll be very social with be sharing amenities, surroundings and all that the communities have the offer.

Lastly, I’ve already listed several amenities that some Florida 55+ communities have, but that doesn’t even scratch the surface. Many have nightly events such as game nights, dinners, movie nights, and much more. There is often a common area or recreation center within the community that can harbor many events such as these. There is so much more to offer within these communities. For more information on communities in the Sarasota area, contact us today!
