Southwest Florida, in particular Sarasota County, is a booming area of the Sunshine State that is becoming more and more popular by the day. But what is it about cities like Sarasota that are garnering all this glimmering attention?
Absolutely Perfect Weather: The one thing you can count on in Florida is consistently beautiful weather (yes, even with the very brief summer showers). Especially during the winter time in Southwest Florida, the temperature couldn’t be more beautiful. The year-round gorgeous weather leaves room for endless outdoor activities and beach excursions. Not a beach person? No problem. Even just hanging out and having a BBQ in your backyard in January is not exactly something you can fix to do up North, is it?
All the Attractions You Can Handle: Speaking of outdoor activities—the Gulf Coast of Florida is famous nationwide for spectacles such as the Ca d’Zan. If you are into history or architecture, this will be an absolutely amazing scene for you and the family. It is also located in the out-of-this-world Ringling Museum campus—with hundreds of eye-popping exhibits that will make your jaw drop. Marie Selby Gardens and Mote Marine Lab are also incredible must-do’s in the area.
The Best Beaches in the US: From St. Petersburg to Naples has some of the most beautiful stretch of beaches in the entire continental US--Siesta Key, of course, eclipsing most other beaches in fame. However, beaches such as Lido Beach and Longboat Key beach are breath-taking. Stay long enough at any one of those and you’re bound to see manatee or dolphins. Where else can you say that in the entire country? The wildlife is amazing. Plus, if you just want to relax on the powdery white sand or play some volleyball, you’re in the right spot.
An Arts Scene Like No Other: Ringling College and the aforementioned Ringling Museum are so iconic in Sarasota, they are essentially the Empire State Building of the Gulf Coast. On top of that, the arts festivals that take place downtown are impeccable, not to mention plentiful. Every month there are new artsy events going on. If you’re into theatre, the Venice Theatre and Van Wezel put on a plethora of shows for the family to enjoy.
Sarasota County is a mecca in the Sunshine State. It harbors a melting pot of diversity, miles of pristine shoreline and more things to do than you can imagine. If you’re looking to escape the cold and get away from it all, this is the place to be.
