Sarasota County is the most desirable place to retire to in the United States. It is a community dedicated to helping seniors live the most prosperous life imaginable. In the past 10 years, Sarasota County has increased its senior citizen population by 5% percent. The grand total population of seniors in Sarasota County is a whopping 35%! The rapid growth is expected to continue due to a relaxing and harmonious lifestyle in the community.

There are a multitude of serene parks for seniors to walk, skate, bike, and stretch on. Believe it or not, there is even an option for horseback riding on these trails.

Not to worry, for those with disabilities or want a slower pace on the trails, a majority of the parks have paved trails for easy accessibility. In addition, there are always handicapped parking spots lining the roads within these parks.

For those looking for additional adventurous activities, you have options to take a riverboat tour at Myakka River State Park in Venice. The scenery is breathtaking and sometimes you'll even spot some herons, snook, manatee and turtles.

Seniors can also embark on guided nature walks through the remarkable Legacy trail where folks can learn more about local history, nature and wildlife in the area. A couple other main nature attractions are Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and Sarasota Jungle Gardens. Here, you can walk/ride the trails (guided or not guided) and experience exotics plants, fish, birds and other wildlife.

For a more toes in the sand approach, feel free to relax on Siesta Key beach. There are local gift shops, restaurants, bars, and Mom & Pop shops all around. In addition, Siesta Key (and all of Sarasota County) provides beach wheelchairs available at every lifeguard stand for no cost to residents

Don't forget to visit one of the County's largest attractions-- searching for shark teeth at Caspersen Beach. People from all over the U.S. Have come to the legendary beach to sift through the beautiful powder white sand for millions of individual shark teeth that are uncovered each year.

We'd be remiss if we didn't recommend the famous Ringling Museum, which is is a must-see because of its constantly changing, family friendly Exhibits and Programs. The entire museum is very accessible and open every day of the week with a seniors discount.

If you're a sports fan, the Baltimore Orioles harbor their Spring Training facility in the County, Ed Smith Stadium. The stadium provides a vicinity for other local concerts and events, as well.
