When you think of a retirement destination, what comes to mind? More often than not, Sarasota County makes the list. Sarasota is consistently named of the best places to retire in the entire world. It is the most desirable place to retire to in the United States. It is a community dedicated to helping seniors live the most prosperous life imaginable. In the past 10 years, Sarasota County has increased its senior citizen population by 6% percent. The rapid growth is expected to continue well into 2024 and beyond,

The outdoor lifestyle here attracts people from all over. There are a plethora of wonderful parks for seniors to walk, skate, bike, and exercise on. There is bike trails, fishing and even horseback riding.

Not to worry, for those wish for a slower change of pace or have mobility restrictions, there are a majority of the parks have paved trails for easy accessibility. In addition, there are always handicapped parking spots lining the roads within these parks.

But wait, there's more! There are additional adventurous activities with options to take a riverboat tour at Myakka River State Park in Venice. Sometimes you can spot some herons, snook, manatee and turtles. Not to mention—the scenery is breathtaking. There is never a dull moment when seeking all that nature has to offer.

One of the main attractions is the Legacy Trail. This is an incredible spot where folks can learn more about local history, nature and wildlife in the area. A couple other main nature attractions are Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and Sarasota Jungle Gardens. Here, you can walk/ride the trails (guided or not guided) and experience exotics plants, fish, birds and other wildlife.  Siesta Key beach. There are local gift shops, restaurants, bars, and Mom & Pop shops all around. In addition, Siesta Key (and all of Sarasota County) provides beach wheelchairs available at every lifeguard stand for no cost to residents.

There is also the County's largest attractions-- searching for shark teeth at Caspersen Beach. People from all over the U.S. Have come to the legendary beach to sift through the beautiful powder white sand for millions of individual shark teeth that are uncovered each year. You won't be disappointed by what you find.

I have been saving one of the best for that: The Ringling Museum. The gem is is a must-see because of its constantly changing, family friendly Exhibits and Programs. The entire museum is very accessible and open every day of the week with a seniors discount.

I haven't left out the sports fan reading...don't worry. The Baltimore Orioles harbor their Spring Training facility in the County, Ed Smith Stadium. The stadium provides a vicinity for other local concerts and events, as well.

This list has only scratched the surface of what this area brings to life! Sarasota County harbors a plethora of other attractions for seniors. Enjoy!
